Report: Caterham hints at supercar and SUV

Caterham head Tony Fernades recently spoke about the automotive company’s plans to expand with Autocar.

The automaker recently teamed up with Renault, which Fernandes says will help allow them to “do what Porsche has done, and grow beyond being a sports car manufacturer into a mainstream car brand – SUVs, city cars, whatever the market wants.”

Having an in-house composites business, experience in F1 and F1 designer Mike Gascoyne joining in to assist with developing the Alpine sports car all also help put Carterham in a position to achieve its goals.

Fernandes also notes that: “There is a long way to go, but we can see a day when we’d like to have a true halo car.”

“We have the know-how to do it within the group and it would be something that would definitely appeal personally. But first things first.”
