Volkswagen Taigun Concept debuts in Brazil

No the name above isn’t a type – what you’re looking at is indeed called the Volkswagen Taigun (not Tiguan) Concept. The concept, which made its debut today at the 2012 São Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil, hints a new a new compact SUV based on Volkswagen New Small Family Up! car.

The Volkswagen Taigun is 3,859 mm long, 1,728 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall. Power comes from a 1.0 liter TSI 3-cylinder engine making 108-hp with a maximum torque of 129 lb-ft. That allows for a 0 to 62 time of 9.2 seconds with a top speed of 115 mph.

“The torque-strong three-cylinder is an ideal engine for such a compact SUV; it is a companion for driving through the urban environment that is as efficient as it is dynamic,” said Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand for Technical Development.

We’re pretty sure the Volkswagen Taigun Concept will eventually enter production – we’re just not sure when and for which regions of the world it will be available for. Stay tuned.
