Word on the street is that Mercedes-Benz is planning a smaller G-Wagon to compete with the upcoming Land Rover Defender replacement due in 2015.

Internally known as the ‘mini-G’ the production model will likely carry the ‘GLG’ badge and will get styling cues from the original G-Class.

Insiders say that the model will sit on the MFA platform, which underpins the A-Class. It will be the second crossover to sit on the platform along wit the GLA Coupe Crossover that is due in 2014.

If it gets the green light, you can look out for the mini-G to hit roads in 2015.
