Report: GM standing behind Opel, brand not for sale
General Motors is making sure the automotive world knows that it has no plans to get rid of Opel.
“Opel is not for sale. GM fully stands behind Opel,” said GM Vice Chairman Stephen Girsky in a statement today following reports of Fiat’s Sergio Marchionne wanting to purchase the troubled brand.

“Opel is a fully integrated part of GM’s global footprint and vital for GM’s future success in Europe,” Grisky said. “The GM-PSA alliance is fully on track.”
In a separate statement, Grisky said: “Opel is the third biggest brand in the global GM portfolio and the third largest brand in the European market. Each year Opel sells well over a million cars. We are confident that the new leadership team and our long-term strategy ‘Drive Opel 2022’ will return the company to its old strength. We’re working hard and every day we’re getting better.”
