According to Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn, the company is favoring Puebla, Mexico as another production location for the new Golf. Winterkorn said that Volkswagen will deal with the Golf production “in a matter of just a few weeks.”

“The decision will be made this year,” he said.

The 7th generation Volkswagen Golf is expected to go on sale in the U.S. in 2014.

Some industry experts have said that the next Golf would most likely be produce at the company’s Chattanooga, Tennesse plant.

“Chattanooga has exhausted its capacity,” Winterkorn said. “If we expand there, an SUV that ends up roomier than the Tiguan would have a good shot.”
