Report: Honda expands Accord recall to include over 600,000 units

Honda said it is expanding its recall in North America to include more than 600,000 units of the Accord sedan to address an issue regarding power steering fluid leak problem that could cause a fire under the hood.

Honda is recalling a total of 573,147 units of the V6 Accord in the Untied States – the recall covers model years 2003 through 2007. The recall also covers 30,058 units in Canada.

Honda said that the power steering hose in the cars may deteriorate due to high temperatures, resulting in cracks and leaks that could cause a loss of power steering assistance or smoke and possibly a fire.

No injuries have been reported related to the issue.

Honda says that the power steering hose needed to fix the issue won’t be available until early 2013. if owners want, they can get a temporary repair at their local dealer. Owners will be notified by mail next year when the new hoses are ready for installation.
