It was reported last week that Ford is preparing to promote Mark Fields, currently president of the Americas, to chief operating officer. Until now, Mulally has not had a COO at Ford. According to sources, the board is making the move to prepare Fields to succeed Mulally.
It was reported that Mulally is expected to retire at the end of next year.
