Report: Pentagon to purchase 1,500 electric-cars, including Volts

It was reported earlier this week by Reuters that GM loses about $49,000 on every Chevrolet Volt it sells. GM later blasted the report saying that as sales increase, the initial costs will be recouped and the cost-per-car will eventually fall.

Well, it seems like the Department of Defense is here to help. The Pentagon will be purchasing a total of 1,500 electric cars including Volts as a part of new efforts to make the military more environmental friendly.

President Barack Obama has promised to “buy one and drive it myself … five years from now when I’m not president anymore.”
