Taxi drop the ‘AXI’ in New York City in favor of the letter ‘T’
In the Big Apple, each and every yellow-taxi is easily distinguishable. However, if you’re the kind that likes to read the word ‘TAXI’ on the side of the vehicle, you’re a bit out of look.

NYC is now eliminating the world ‘TAXI’ in favor of just the letter ‘T’ – an enlarged version of the symbol first adopted five years ago.
“We have no doubt that a yellow car with a roof light with a big T will be understood as a New York City taxicab,” said David S. Yassky, chairman of the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission. “Even the greenest of greenhorns will know that it’s a taxicab.”
The new design also gets rid of the fare panel on the passenger door.
