CARandDRIVER reports that Bentley will be adding some oil-burning engine options for the brand’s future lineup. This word reportedly comes from current CEO Wolfgang Durheimer. In the same report, Bentley also said that a plug-in hybrid option will available soon, though they didn’t specify which car would specifically receive it.

On the flipside however, in lieu of the incoming engines, Durheimer was also supposedly quoted for saying that Bentley’s long-standing tradition of 6.75L V8 will soon retire. This is because Volkswagen AG plans on making Bentley the center of its V12 engine use and development, so for Bentley to continue with their V8 as the range topper would be insensible.

But Durheimer said that the death of the 6.75L V8 will not happen before the next generation Mulsanne.

If everything goes according to plan, the V12 engine might be available 2013 or 2014. This plug-in hybrid variant, with technical details that remain a mystery might really be the best selling vehicle of Bentley.
