Report: Decision on Jeep pickup to be made soon

Jeep President Mike Manley mentioned in an interview with Car Advice that the automaker is currently debating if it will be building a pick up in the near future, with both two- and four-door variants also being mulled over. “One of the issues is that when you go four-door with a bed is that your break-over angle gets destroyed. We can still maintain approach and departure angles, but when we get to a certain length, the break-over becomes an issue.”

This could mean compromised capability if Jeep uses the next-generation Wrangler, which is something Jeep is not willing to do. In its place, Jeep is considering going the route of using the more “versatile” Fiat platform.

It is possible that the model could appear very close to the well-received Gladiator concept form the 2005 North American auto show, which was scrapped because of Chrysler’s unstable condition at the time.
