According to a report by Bloomberg, BMW is hoping to recoup some of the cost that went into the development of the BMW i3 and i8 by selling the cars on the Internet for the first time. BMW, which opened the first BMW i showroom in London yesterday, will use an online sales platform to sell its first two electric models.

The London store currently displays prototypes of the i3 and i8, which will go on sale next year. BMW has spent about $3 billion developing both cars, according to an estimate by Frost & Sullivan.

Prices for the BMW i3 are expected to start at 40,000 euros ($48,500 USD) accord to estimates. The BMW i8, which will go on sale in 2014, is expected to be priced north of $125,000.
