Report: Mercedes-Benz confirms A-Class based compact crossover to duke it out with BMW X1

For those of you interested in a 95% scale GLK Mercedes-Benz, you are in luck. Upon commencement of A Class production, the German marque confirmed that in addition to the now well known variants built on the front-drive MFA platform, there will be a CUV destined to compete with the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1.

The cynics among us will point out that the current trend of the Germans out-niching each other is nothing new, but for the American cynics, which is likely most of you, this car is a little bit more newsworthy, seeing as Mercedes is unlikely to offer any other MFA-based hatches to North America apart from this CUV, dubbed the GLA.

The drivetrain and combination will likely just be a less expensive and similarly efficient alternative to the oil burning GLK250. Should this crossover show up here, it will be fitted with a 2-liter, gasoline turbo four cylinder chucking out an undetermined amount of power. Stay tuned for more details.
