2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 price starts at $49,300

For the first time ever, the BMW 3 Series lineup will be getting a hybrid variant. We first met the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show earlier this year but today, we get the price details.

Prices for the 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 will start at $49,300 (excluding an $895 destination and handling).

The 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is be powered by a 300-hp 6-clyinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The unit is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an electric-motor that makes 55-hp. Working optimally together, the engine and the hybrid system produce 335-hp with a maximum torque of 332 lb-ft.

0 to 60 mph takes 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel-economy comes in around a little over 36 mpg – official EPA figures will be announced later. In addition to the boost available for the internal combustion engine, the electric motor also allows the ActiveHybrid 3 to drive emissions free for speeds up to 45 mph for distances up to 2.5 miles.
