A Porsche 911 and Audi R8 competitor is currently in the works from Maserati in the form of an all-new mid-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car.
The Alfa Romeo 4C provides the platform for the two-seater, but will be powered by a new, Ferrari-developed V6 engine and will be bigger and faster overall. Likely to be dubbed the GranSport, the model will be positioned as a high-performance, driver-oriented halo car. It will be faster and lighter then the rest of the Maserati lineup, a position currently held by the 442hp 4.7-liter V8 GranTurismo MC Stradale.

The model’s carbon fiber chassis is expected to keep weight down as low as 2,646 lbs, even though it will be longer and wider then the Alpha it is based on.
Power for the GranSport will be a twin-turbo V6 that produces over 450hp mated two a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox like that of the Ferrari 458. That combination is expected to produce a 0-60mph time of less then 4 seconds and a 190mph top speed.
As for the design, the rendering reveals a handful of Maserati standard design cues blending with some distinctive new touches such has short front and rear overhangs.
Don’t expect to see the GranSport on the road until 2015, but that should give enough time for the dust to settle after the Kubang release for the model to make a splash on its own.
