Mazda MX-5 GT Concept debuts at Goodwood Festival of Speed

At the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Mazda is showing a lineup of vehicles along with this 205-hp MX-5 GT Concept, which has been inspired by Mazda’s podium winning MX-5 GT race program.

The model was built by race specialists Jota Sport, and is powered by a naturally aspirated and upgrade 2.0-liter Mazda gasoline engine – mated to the standard manual gearbox. Jota also added suspension upgrades to improve handling along with a carbon front splitter, a rear diffuser and boot spoiler. They also added a sport exhaust system for added note from the tailpipe.

Inside, the Mazda MX-5 GT Concept gets Recaro racing seats and some carbon fiber touches to decrease weight.

“This year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed we have a number of significant cars on the stand and contesting the hillclimb,” said Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda UK. “The MX-5 has been our best known car for 22 years and with the GT4 and GT Concept on show, we are demonstrating that this car can compete with the more expensive race and performance cars but still remain true to its roots of affordable motoring with a strong focus on the driving experience.”
