Jaguar XJ_e plug-in hybrid sedan to debut at Goodwood
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jaguar will show a plug-in hybrid prototype for the XJ known as the XJ_e. The Jaguar XJ_e project was in part funded by the UK Government’s Technology Strategy Board through the REEVolution project, and engineered in partnership with a bunch of UK technology companies
Power for the Jaguar XJ_e comes from a parallel plug-in hybrid system that consists of a 2.0 liter turbo engine with a 8-speed automatic, helping it pump out 329-hp. The hybrid system consists of a 69kW motor that is fueled by a lithium-ion battery pack. Full charge takes about 4 hours fro ma 240V outlet.
Jaguar says that the XJ_e can go from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds with a top speed of 150 mph. It can run solely on electric power for 25 miles with an average fuel-economy of 73.4 mpg.
As of right now, the Jaguar XJ_e is just a prototype – the company has not confirmed whether or not the plug-in hybrid sedan will enter production.
