Report: Infiniti considering halo supercar, EMERG-E is not it

Infiniti’s slogan ‘Inspired Performance’ may not really live up to the hype but the brand is looking for a halo sports car. According to Andreas Sigl, the head of Infinti’s F1 operations, a halo car ‘could bridge the gap between Infiniti and F1.’

Speaking to CARandDRIVER,, Sigl points out that an Infiniti badged Nissan GT-R is totally out of the question. Looking over to the upcoming EMERG-E, a plug-in hybrid sports car based on the Lotus Evora, is also ruled out since it may not deliver performance that’s expected of a halo sports car.

So what other options does Infiniti have? Some insiders say that the Essence Concept from 2009 is still on the table for discussion. However, no final word on approving the concept for production has been given – in fact, no official word has been given on a halo sports car.

What are the higher-ups at Infiniti thinking? We’re not really sure.
