The first Venom GT Spyder to roll out of Hennessey Performance’s garage heads straight for Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler’s.
“Steven came to us and asked if we could build his Venom GT as a roadster,” explains Hennessey Performance founder John Hennessey. “We had to make a few structural changes to our integrated roll cage in order to be able to fit the removable top.”
Hennessey had to tune the motor to increase the standard 1,200 hp to 1,244hp in order to compensate for the added weight the new roll cage added. With an extra 30 lbs, Hennessey says “We decided to increase the Venom GT’s power to 1,244hp to maintain our one horsepower-per-one-kilogramme power to weight,” this translates to a total curb weight at 2,743 lbs.
The coupe gets its power form a 6.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, and hits its 0-60 mph time in just 2.5 seconds, although the 0-200 mph time is 15.3 seconds.
With the coupe priced at $950,000 and the Spyder at $1.1 million, a total of 5 2013 Venom GT’s will get the Hennessey treatment.
