Report: Hyundai to introduce long wheelbase version of Elantra in China

2012 Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai had a very successful year last year in China, with a sales increase of 6.7 percent from 2010. To continue its growth in the region, the automaker is releasing a larger version of the Elantra to meet the young consumer’s demands.

A $1 billion factory is underway in Beijing to produce the longer and taller Elantra sedan. There may be some minor esthetic changes as well, to further appear to the youthful market, as well as a greater reinforcement of its Genesis Sedan.

Hyundai is currently ranked fourth in the market in China, just under Volkswagen, Toyota and Nissan.
