McLaren is adding some new technology to it’s MP4-12C Spider model with an all new folding roof operation.

German firm Webasto developed the roof, consisting of three panels that stack up behind the seats for storage. When removed, the supercar’s shape remains intact, along with the glass panel over the engine. Aluminum and carbon fiber are likely candidates for the roof panel’s materials.

The Spider will be powered by the same motor used in the coupe, a 3.8-liter V8 making 592hp and 422 lb-ft of torque, and should maintain the coupe’s 205mph top speed and 3.3 second 0-62mph time.
