Chinese auto company Zhongsheng buys 70% of Carlsson

Carlsson Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

German tuner Carlsson Autotechnik GmbH has sold a 70 percent stake in its company to Chinese auto company Zhongsheng Group Holdings Ltd . Zhongshenga it purchased the stake in order to meet the rising demand from Chinese luxury car owners for custom bodies and engine modification work.

Zhongsheng said that it has ‘aggressive plans’ for Carlsson and will take advantage of its huge dealer network to sell modified luxury vehicles.

Zhongsheng didn’t disclose the financial details of the acquisition.

“The problem is there are so many Mercedes, BMW and Audi cars in Shanghai and Beijing that those cars sometimes feel like mainstream cars, like driving a Camry in Los Angeles,” said Zhongsheng’s chairman, Huang Yi. He said that Zhongsheng plans to open a small chain of Mercedes-Carlsson retailers in China to sell custom Mercedes-Benz cars.
