Report: Nissan will expand Nismo-Branded with ‘RS’ Packages

Nissan is kicking up its performance presence in the market with the expansion of its Nismo brand, including a broader offering of engine modifications.

Executive Vice President of Nissan and head of Global Product Planning recently said: “There will be Nismo packages for the suspension and the Nismo RS packages that will include engine tunes.”

Nismo is looking to appeal to a larger audience with its additions, as the brand is extremely successful in racing, and Palmer feels it deserves to be more well-known. “Nissan won every class it competed in for the 2011 season,” he adds.

For 2013 Nismo, a name originated form Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd., will be getting its own headquarters independent of Nissan, as well. This is another move to help the label grow.

No details have been released yet as to how the RS packages will be handled, but so far the 370Z Nismo is offered with an extra 18-hp.

It’s exciting to see Nismo make this move. It certainly has always received plenty of respect from its niche followers and its worthy of a much broader audience.
