Report: Volvo expands diesel engine lineup for European markets

 2012 Volvo V60 Front

Volvo has reportedly announced to be expanding their diesel engine lineup in Europe. New to the choices of oil burners is an entry-level 2.0L turbodiesel five-cylinder for its S60, V60, V70 and S80 models.

Capable of producing 134hp, this new “D3” diesel can be mated to either a manual or automatic cogswapper. Included in this update are new classifications dictated by the brand: D2 diesels produce 113hp, D3 diesels 134hp, D4 diesels make 161hp, and lastly, D5 diesels produce 212hp.

The engine was heavily tweaked to improve efficiency and CO2 emissions across the entire range for a result of less than 120g/km. The only exception to this low CO2 output is the D5 diesel.

Orders for these new diesels will begin in later this month with deliveries starting in May. Whether these diesels will reach stateside is still in the unknown.
