During a recent trip out to Switzerland, I managed to get up-close-and-personal with a Volkswagen Scirocco and I found myself wondering why this wonderful hatchback coupe isn’t offered to us on the stateside. Of course, when the new-generation Volkswagen Scirocco was introduced in Europe in 2008, Volkswagen Group of America couldn’t make a business case to bring the car to the United States since the move would jeopardize sales of the Golf hatch.

Well, things seem to have changed. Volkswagen Group of America CEO Jonathan Browning is pushing for the car to come to the United States.

“That’s a piece of the lineup that I would dearly love to see here,” Browning told Automotive News at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

The Volkswagen Scirocco was last sold in the United States in 1988. The model is now due for a facelift in Europe in 2013.

I’d get one and I’m sure it’d be a big hit with the tuners and the diesel would probably attract the environmentalists. BRING IT ON!
