2012 New York: 2014 Mazda6 confirmed for early 2013, will ‘strongly resemble’ Takeri Concept

Mazda has just announced today at the 2012 New York Auto Show that its upcoming 2014 model year Mazda6 will be released in the beginning of 2013.

The model is anticipated for release at the Paris Motor Show in September, and Mazda says that you can expect the production model to strongly resemble the Takeri concept form last year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Of course, the new Mazda6 will feature Mazda’s new Skyactive technology, and is aiming to be the best in its class for fuel economy. The Skyactive-G petrol motor will power the new model, mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, while a Skyactiv-D may or may not be released.

“With SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine, Mazda has showcased that improving engine and vehicle efficiencies can still produce a dynamic-performing driving machine, as evidenced by the 2012 Mazda3 and 2013 CX-5,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “The all-new 2014 Mazda6 will be the latest Mazda to break out of its segment’s monotonous mold and be fiercely competitive versus the current sales leaders.”

Personally, I’m looking forward to the next Mazda6. It was a great car before, and I’m hoping Mazda meets or exceeds the performance of its predecessor.
