Video: Mopar teams up with Italy’s Magneti Marelli to create a meaner Fiat 500 Abarth

The new 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth is giving the brand a much needed push in the United States thanks to a fun marketing campaign, which has included super model Catrinel Menghia and Charlie Sheen.

Chrysler LLC’s Mopar has now partnered with Italian parts supplier Magneti Marelli to produce a range of tuning options for the Fiat 500 Abarth – but get this -they will not be available in the United States. I mean really, who makes these outrageous decisions?

Either way, the car is known as the Fiat 500 Abarth Venom and features a bunch of visual modifications including a new front bumper, carbon fiber parts that helped shave off 200 pounds from the car and a large matte-black Scorpion graphic. Power wise, the Fiat 500 Abarth Venom gets an extra 40-hp bringing the total to 200-hp.

The Fiat 500 Abarth Venom made its debut in Las Vegas, even though it’s not coming to the United States, and on hand was Catrinel Menghia.

Refresher: The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth is powered by a new 1.4 liter MultiAir Turbo engine that pushes up to 160-hp with a maximum torque of 170 lb-ft. Sales start early 2012. Prices start at $22,000.
