Report: Mercedes-Benz R-Class sales coming to an end in U.S.

2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

Mercedes has confirmed that the 2012 R-Class will be the last one produced for the U.S. Production for the $50,000 wagon will continue for Mexico, China and Canada here in the Alabama plant, however.

Less then 300 units have been sold in the states so far this year, so Mercedes opted to shift its focus to the markets that have growing demand. In the U.S. Mercedes spokesman Christian Bokich says the R-Class sales have decreased “to the extent that we can no longer make the business case for continuing to offer the R-Class”.

Considering how well the GL, GLK and M-Class models are doing, a new model should be hitting the U.S. resembling an M-Class to satisfy SUV-thirsty Amercian consumers.
