For some reason, the new 2013 BMW M6 brings back sweet memories of the 8-Series and the possibility of a production M8, which leads me to believe Matt Russel, BMWNA M brand manager, was right when he spoke to our editor Chris Chin at the 2011 LA Auto Show.
“The M8 is a car I’ve loved ever since I knew BMWs, Russell said. “But today, there’s the M6, a car that we truly think, fills the mission of the M8 Prototype. There’s absolutely no question about it…(the) new M6, you all have seen it in testing and development. If anything, this new M6 really is a modern day interpretation and as good of an M8-type car as the original concept. It should answer all of the questions anyone has about a BMW supercar.”

Refresher: The 2013 BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible are both powered by a 4.4 liter high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology making 560 hp at 5,750 – 7,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. The rev limiter comes in at 7,200 rpm. Mated to a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, 0 to 62 mph comes in at 4.2 seconds for the coupe and 4.3 seconds for the convertible. Top speed on both models is limited to 155 mph.
