While we’ll have to wait until April to see the 2013 SRT Viper at the 2012 New York Auto Show, today we’re getting our first look at the logo that will grace the iconic supercar.

The logo of the previous Dodge Viper (the new Viper will not be branded as a Dodge but will carry sold under Chrysler Group LLC’s SRT brand), was as iconic as the car. The new logo, which is know as ‘Stryker,’ marks the first revamp of the Viper logo since 2003, following ‘Sneaky Pete’ and ‘Fang.’

The Stryker logo was designed by Chrysler designer Vince Galante – a Viper owner himself.

“I’m a big fan of the classic ‘60s front-engine race cars, like the Cobra Daytona and the early Ferraris,” said Galante. “That’s why I like my classic GTS.”

Galante is still in his 20s and grew up on blockbuster series like Transformers, GI Joe and Thundercats.

“I never looked at images of the Thundercats while I was doing the new logo, but after the fact, I realize that the new design has some elements of those graphics, but more intentionally has some lines that reflect the new Viper,” Galante said.
