The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that the 2012 Volvo S60 has earned the agency’s top crash rating of five stars.

The NHTSA adopted more stringent guidelines and testing practices last year, making it tougher for vehicles to garner the five-star designation. Other vehicles that have received five-star vehicle ratings include the Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Sonic, Cadillac CTS, Cadillac SRX, Saab 9-4X, Toyota Camry and the new Volkswagen Passat.

The Volvo S60 earned 5-stars for frontal, rollover, side pole and side barrier crashes.
