GMC Granite Concept

The GMC Granite Concept, which made its debut two years ago at the Detroit Auto Show, as a stylish, MPV-like concept aimed at young urban buyers. Ever since, it has been rumored that the model will enter production to lure in younger buyers to the GMC brand. Well, that’s not going to happen.

“There’s no Granite,” says Jim Federico, vehicle line executive for General Motors’ small and compact cars. “We got a lot of input, pretty good input, but we never moved it out of concept.”

He offered no other details on the Granite’s demise.

Oh well, seems like Scion doesn’t have anything to worry about.

How typical of GM not to put it into production.

Go figure, the three vehicles that stir my soul when I look at them and I feel a visceral desire for are all GM concepts; the GMC Granite, the Cadillac Converj and the recently unveiled Chevy Tru 140S. As a 60 year old teacher I would probably have to settle for the Granite and the Tru 140S in my garage. If I won the lottery I would buy the Converj: what a jewel of a car, pure lust factor. GM could sell these cars on looks alone instead they remain concepts. These vehicles were designed by teams with vision and passion. Instead you let committees decide to produce vehicles that instead of desire and passion you chose vehicles designs that are acceptable to everyone or offend no one but at the same time those dull compromises will not create a following. I want the industrial pit-bull Granite instead you offer up the neutered Buick Encore. I want the Tru 140S but you will produce a watered down Cruze coupe that is less practical than the sedan but has none of the exotic lines of the Tru that make me say “screw the 2 less doors and little rear seat head or leg room I want one”
