Chevrolet revealed two new concepts earlier today at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, one of which is this, the Code 130R.

As part of a new campaign aimed at next-generation buyers, Chevrolet had conducted several study groups to gain the perspectives of young consumers. As a result, Chevrolet used the feedback they obtained to help design a car that catered to the interests of these next-generation buyers.

“Chevrolet has always stood for making the aspirational attainable for all generations” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. “These two concepts interpret that vision for a new generation. We’re seeking out our newest customers’ opinions, listening to their advice, and engaging them in new ways.”

The Code 130R was one of the results. Chevrolet says that it’s a two-plus-two coupe with a simple upright profile. I say, it looks like Chevrolet mated a BMW 1-Series coupe with a Mazda RX-8.

And although the aesthetics could be a bit odd, Chevy says that the Code 130R features a rear-wheel drive layout with a turbocharged 1.4L Ecotec engine sitting up front providing 140 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.

Should the Code 130R make it into production, Chevy says that it would cost somewhere in the low $20,000s. Sounds like Chevrolet wants to take down the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Why couldn’t this be a Buick?

In any case, why is Chevy waiting…build the dern thing already. Just make sure you offer a lower pricepoint than the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ since it won’t have the 200HP they are offering.
