2012 Chevrolet Sonic

GM has announced a recall for the new Chevrolet Sonic to inspect for missing brake pads. Word has it that the missing brake pads fell off before the cars were assembled and went unnoticed at the bottom of containers being shipped to the Orion Township, Mich., factory, according to GM spokesman Alan Adler.

A total of 4,296 units of the Sonic are being recalled.

The Detroit automaker said that it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries resulting from the issue. The company said that will notify owners and dealers will inspect the front brakes for missing inner or outer pads.

If the pads are missing, GM will install new inner and outer pads, new brake calipers and a new rotor free of charge.

D’oh, wouldn’t someone driving notice that braking was off when the car gets driven off the assembly line straight into the back of the new car in front?
