At the 2012 Detroit Auto Show next month, Volkswagen will unveil an electric-car that isn’t based on any current production car, according to a report by Detroit Free Press. Don’t get your hopes up as V-Dub calls the car a ‘pure concept,’ meaning it won’t be going into production – at least not anytime soon.

Joining the Volkswagen electric concept will be the gas-electric hybrid version of the Jetta sedan.

Volkswagen says that the Jetta Hybrid will directly challenge the Toyota Prius in the United States.

Power will come from an electric-motor mater to a 1.4 liter turbocharged gasoline engine.

The Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid won’t hit showrooms until November of 2012.
