Audi set to pass Mercedes as No. 2 in global luxury brand sales, BMW to be No. 1

There used to be a time when when you spoke of top luxury brands Lexus would also come up – well, not in this article. Audi is set to pass Mercedes-Benz brand for the first time in full-year global sales and finish 2011 as the world’s second best-selling luxury brand behind BMW.

With just December to go, Audi leads Mercedes-Benz by more than 56,500 units.

From Jan. to Nov. 2011, Mercedes-Benz sales have been up 7 percent to 1,136,525 units while Audi’s sales has grown 18 percent to 1,193,110 units.

BMW should be easily able to defend its title as the No.1 global luxury brand, with more than 1.25 million sales after 11 months. BMW will end up breaking its record of 1,276,793 that it set in 2007.

BMW Group as a whole, which includes the BMW brand, Mini and Rolls-Royce, has already sold more vehicles in the first 11 months of this year (1,510,862) than all of 2010.
