VW 3-row crossover development moving forward, Tiguan to be more U.S. oriented before

We’ve been hearing rumors of a three-row Volkswagen crossover for quite some time now. A company source has now confirmed to CARandDRIVER that the company is indeed moving ahead with a Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer and Dodge Durango competitor.

Reports suggest that the model will be built on the Volkswagen Passat’s platform with production taking place at the company’s new Chattanooga, Tennessee or Mexico plant.

For those of you that love the rebadged version of Chrysler’s Town & Country – the Routan – the model will most likely disappear when the three-row crossover arrives.

Volkswagen also confirmed that the new Tiguan will become less GTI and a model that’s more oriented toward American shoppers.
