Report: Audi S4, S5 to drop manual transmission in Europe

2012 Audi S5

In a non traditional move, Audi will drop the manual transmission option from the S4 and S5 in Europe.

Audi’s Barry Hoch indicated this in an email to Fourtitude.com: “They (Europe) lose the manual. We keep the manual! 100% confirmed, although I don’t know what other markets also get to keep it. I don’t want to fear for my life when I leave the office. The manual transmission enthusiasts are… umm… passionate individuals. Save the Manuals!

This leaves the DSG (dual clutch auto ‘box) as the only Euro option. This change bucks the trend of more manuals for Europe, but it isn’t the first: the TTRS of course only comes with the manual here in the ‘states, relinquishing the hot TT’s sub-four second 0-60 time by half a second.
