Mazda to show MX-5 Spyder, turbo Mazda2 at 2011 SEMA

The next big show, even for the automobile industry, is the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas. And as an example, Mazda will be showcasing two special cars at the show this year: an MX-5 Miata Spyder and a turbocharged Mazda2.

Starting with the MX-5 Spyder, it features a manual “bikini” soft top a la Porsche Boxster Spyder to help save weight. Added to the package were some Brembo brakes and a lowered suspension. On the aesthetic front, large wheels and a streamlined body kit completes the package.

As for the turbocharged Mazda2 or the Turbo2 as they call it, whatever they put under the hood is in the unknown. But they slightly hinted at it by saying that “One of our most powerful turbocharged engines in our lightest platform is in the Turbo2. ‘Nuff said!” So that could suggest that it’s powered by Mazda’s 2.3L turbocharged four-banger good for 263hp, the same in the CX-7 Crossover.

Be sure to check these out at the 2011 SEMA show.
