The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is a great looking hatchback, but its 138-hp 1.6 liter GDI Gamma 4-banger doesn’t really help it when it comes to pleasing enthusiasts. Lucky for us, Hyundai today announced its latest powertrains including a turbo version of the 1.6 liter GDI (T-GDI) and a Euro6 R-2.0 liter diesel.
“Due to stricter environmental regulations and policies that vary from nation to nation, competition in the development of powertrains and other core technologies is intensifying,” said Woong-Chul Yang, Hyundai Motor Co. Vice Chairman. “Hyundai Motor will accelerate its efforts to develop future powertrains that feature high-performance and eco-friendly engines and transmissions.”

The 1.6 liter T-GDI Gamma engine produces a nice 204-hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. We’re hoping this engine finds way under the hood of the Veloster.
The Euro6 R-2.0 diesel engine meets the next-generation Euro6 regulations with a maximum output of 148-hp.
