U.S. gasoline demand falls due to high gas prices

MasterCard’s SpendingPulse report reflects that demands for fuel in the U.S. have declined by 2.5 percent in comparison to the same week last year.

An increase of 23.2 percent from last year on fuel costs is keeping drivers off the road for recreational purposes. From last week, demand is down .3 percent, as well.

The data is based on information collected by MasterCard, Inc. division MasterCard Advisers, which estimates retail gas on aggregate sales in its payment system and takes other payment forms into account.
