Boston - Unlocked Car WarningWith thieves abundant in the area, Beverly police have been taking a different approach to fighting crime.

Unlocked cars have been targeted by thieves, and police have recently uncovered a variety of stolen goods including prescription medications and i-pods. So the department had Beverly officers seek out cars with unlocked doors and write the owners warnings and tips to avoid theft, leaving them on the dashboards inside the cars. One in five that were checked were found open, and one hundred warnings were issued.

In addition to the warnings, the police locked the car doors they found open, issued warnings to those leaving valuables in plain sight, and sent out reverse 911 calls.
