2013 Chevrolet TrailBlazer designed for Asia, South America, no US-bound version

So get this. The new 2013 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, which was teased just two days ago and was one of the highlights on many automotive news desks across the world, will not be coming to the US. And if my research serves me right, that would make it the first ever SUV from Chevrolet not offered in the US market. Interesting…

Word has it that the new midsized TrailBlazer was designed specifically for the Asian market, where SUVs are becoming exponentially more popular much like the boom that took place here in the US of A and crippled our automobile industry (whether the boom in Asia will follow suit is a discussion for another day).

Making its first debut in Thailand in 2012, the 2013 TrailBlazer is built off of the same platform that underpins the new Chevrolet Colorado pickup, which was developed by General Motors of Brazil. And because the platform is a body-on-frame design, Chevrolet said that the TrailBlazer won’t be good match for the new Ford Explorer and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, both of which use unibody designs.

The TrailBlazer debuts later this year in November at the Dubai Auto Show and will be built and sold in South America, Asia and Thailand.
