The 2012 Subaru XV that you saw during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show last month is headed to our shores. According to Subaru’s director of U.S. communications, Michael McHale, the Subaru XV will go on sale in the United States sometime in 2012 – but it will carry a different name.

The Subaru XV will be a replacement for the Impreza Outback, which is discontinued for the 2012 model year.

The model is currently on sale in Europe and is available with a 1.6L and 2.0L Boxer flat-four. The engines are mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission and an auto start-stop system to provide some nice fuel-economy numbers.

We’ll have more details for you on the U.S.-spec 2012 Subaru XV as soon as we get them.

Please stop trying to make Subarus too pretty. We don’t want them to become too mainstream.  Look what happened to Saab. Beware!

BIGGEST MISTAKE YET. I am so dissappointed in subaru in the last few years. You fattened up the outback and the impreza. Gave them bloated looks, and made them generic. And now, the best car in your lineup, THE best sport wagon ever is being replaced by a wanabe SUV. WAKE THE HELL UP you are going to lose your fan base…
