Mulally: Ford could build electric-cars in China

FoMoCo may build electric-cars in China with its partners as the auto industry moves towards expanding fuel-efficient offerings, CEO Alan Mulally said.

“As we move to more electrification, you’re going to see more hybrids, plug-in hybrids and all-electric” cars, Mulally said in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Chongqing, China.

Mulally was in china for the groundbreaking of an engine transmission plant at Ford’s venture with Changan Automobile Group. He declined to say when the company will start producing electric-cars in China.

The government plans to have 1 million electric-powered vehicles on the road by 2015. Mullaly said that a rollout of electric vehicles depends largely on infrastructure and advances in battery technology.
