Report: Lamborghini to do more limited-edition models in the future

Lucky for the folks that have a lot of money, Lamborghini plans on doing more expensive special-edition models like the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento in the future. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Lamborghini confirmed that it will be putting the Sesto Elemento into limited production of 20 units for track use only.

The Sesto Elemento weighs just 2,202 pounds, and is powered by a V10 engine making 570-hp. That allows it to have a power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kilograms per horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of just 2.5 seconds.

“Once in a while we should do one-offs or special editions,” said Chairman Stephan Winkelmann. “In this case we made the concept and then got enough interest in it to make a limited run. If the car meets the image of Lamborghini and there is demand, we will build them.”

However, Winkelmann was quick to point out that we probably won’t see cars as extreme the Sesto Elemento in the future since the model stretches the limits of weight. “To build something lighter with a car such as this would be too expensive,” he said.
