Report: 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid to debut in Detroit, no Jetta Coupe

2011 Volkswagen Jetta

At the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the guys at CARandDRIVER went digging for some information on the new Volkswagen Jetta. What did they find out?

First, the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January and will go on sale shortly after. It will be powered by a 1.4 liter TSI turbo 4-cylinder. The battery back will comprise of lithium-ion batteries. The car will be advertised as a sporty hybrid rather than a fuel-efficient one – nonetheless, some big fuel-economy numbers are to be expected.

Other than that, there will be no Volkswagen Jetta Coupe. Why not? Apparently, the Puebla, Mexico plant has no room to build the Jetta Coupe. It already builds the Jetta, Jetta Sportwagon, Golf, Beetle, and is looking to take on the production of the Beetle Convertible, which will be shown at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April.

Jetta Coupe over Jetta Sportwagon anyone?
