While still lower than its original anticipated price, Mitsubishi has raised the cost of its 2012 Mitsubishi i electric vehicle.

The new sticker will reflect the updated price at $29,985, up $1,135 from April’s price. The automaker notes “unforeseen changes in market conditions” as the reason for the increase.

Originally, the i model was set to be in the $35,000-$40,000 range, closer to its competitors. Both the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt start at over $35,000.

The Mitsubishi i is still eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit.
