After a very very long time Volvo has updated its best-selling model – the XC90. It’s not a complete overhaul of the SUV/Crossover, which isn’t a bad thing since we don’t like when automakers try to fix things that aren’t broken.

“The XC90 still boasts all the virtues that have made it one of our most successful models ever,” noted Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development at Volvo Car Corporation.

On the outside, the 2012 Volvo XC90 gets daytime running headlamps, redesigned silver metallic bumper bar as well as silver roof rails, which are now standard on all XC90 models. Volvo also added some enhancements to the tail lights, LED brake lights and added a silver turn indicator bulb. The model now comes with six-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels in silver matte finish.

The interior of the 2012 Volvo XC90 has been upgraded to go with the current Volvo theme with more luxury touches including a 3-spoke steering wheel, aluminum decor and a watch instruments with white lighting.

The 2012 Volvo XC90 R-Design adds much more sportiness with a redesigned upholstery, inlays, door panels and new 19-inch wheels.

Also, the Volvo On Call system can now be combined with Bluetooth phones for audio streaming.

I disagree. Under some minor upgrades (that have been done through the last decade) its still the same SUV that it was in 2002. Way to long to keep a body style. The car industry changes and so should the cars. It needs an overhaul badly. Volvo disappoints me in their lack of ambition.. who do they think they are? Porsche?

Isn’t it about time a new XC90 was introduced?
Product cycles must be shortened if Volvo wants to begin to compete with Audi/BMW/Merc/Jag/Lexus.  If Kia and Hyundai can do it then whatch waiting for?

Yawn. I was really hoping for some improvements in the interior and a borrowing more from the XC60 in the exterior styling. Honestly I can’t even tell there is a change in this model and I’m right now shopping the 2011 model.  Probably best to wait for the 2012 to launch and buy a 2011 at discount.
