BMW considering reintroducing 5-Series wagon to make up for sluggish Gran Turismo sales

2011 BMW 5-Series Touring

BMW recognizes that their 5-Series Gran Turismo hasn’t exactly been a success in the US of A. And that shouldn’t be a surprise with its paralyzing looks. So as a result, word has it that the Munich brand is considering reintroducing the 5-Series wagon here in the states to make up for the lack in sales of Germany’s version of a scrotum on wheels.

Nothing is exactly set in stone, but the 5-Series wagon is definitely on the table for consideration. Interestingly enough though, the 5-Series GT outsold the previous generation E60 5-Series wagon when the GT was launched.

Along with the rumor, the source of this information also said that BMW has no plans of axing its V12, despite the crush to reduce fuel economy. The reason is that the V12 still plays a pivotal role for Rolls-Royce, since BMW still owns the brand. However, either way, the source also said that BMW is planning on fitting its V12 with their latest ActiveHybrid system to still help decrease fuel consumption.
